Jack Atlus (5Ds x Dead Space AU), Head Security Officer upon the Ishimura, met a very unfortunate fate when the artifact began to mutate corpses into reanimated Necromorphs. After his leg was caught in some exposed gears, with the bleeding, pain, and bone splinters resulting in his death, he was infected by the artifact's creatures. Unfortunately for him, however, Jack also happened to have a case of Lazarus Syndrome, and was 'revived' in the middle of the mutation process. The infection was cut off, leaving half of his body relatively untouched, and the other half terribly scarred. Thanks to the agonized shriek that he lets out upon regaining consciousness, a mechanic that arrived on board a rescue ship was able to find him - Yuusei Fudo, his best friend.

Yuusei attempts to heal Jack after he pleads for the mechanic to spare his life, as he has no desire to kill him, and is desperately attempting to suppress that bloodthirsty urge within him. While Jack does end up attacking, the medpack that Yuusei uses drastically slows the infection process. That said, the parasite in his body halts in its progress altogether when Yuusei decides that it's safer for him to simply sever the officer's legs so he has a much more difficult time trying to kill. As the Necromorphs are killed by detaching the limbs, the active part of the infection - as well as Jack's newly-acquired murderous intuition - dies, making him relatively safe to be around.

Jack, for most of the 'game plot', has no legs, only about half of his torso (cutting off just below his ribcage), a human arm and a sloppily sewn-on blade arm, and a half-mutated face. His organs are still partially functional, and they hang out of his torso, dragging along the ground when he moves. Yuusei ensures that he keeps his old white coat on, to paint a fantasy that Jack never changed at all. Eventually, the poor officer's tongue is ripped out and eaten by the mechanic with whom he's become so infatuated with.



In the YGO DR, Jack tends to hang around (and stay around) the Old Momentum site, deep within the reactor ruins to hide from onlookers. Unfortunately, the place he's decided to call home is also the spawn point for the DR participants who have died. Because of this, he often remains in hiding.
